Listless, yet India go past Trinidad 7-0

Listless, yet India go past Trinidad 7-0

Indian women notched up a 7-0 win over lowly ranked Trinidad and Tabogo in their third match of the ongoing CWG. The score was about half the target that the team set for themselves before the bully off.

Indian girls needed a good goal average to remain in the hunt for the semis, as the other contenders in the pool, Africa and Australia, drew their match today, and before that amassed more than 10 goals against the same Trinidians.

However, Indian girls were more hurried and harried than following any system to work up the goal aggregate they were in need of.

Surinder Kaur, despite missing double the number of sitters, scored four goals while Ritu Rani, Jasjeet Kaur and Rani Ramphal posted a goal apiece.

India garnered as many as 12 penalty corners, but could convert only three, two in the last quarter.

Three out of 12 is a bad barometer for a team that has been preparing for the event last one and half years.

Only the Indian forwardline has to be blamed for the fiasco that is impending on the Indian girls. They missed sitters with unimaginative positioning and hurried movements. Rani Ramphal was thoroughly subdued by the prominence given to Surinder Kaur, who is hardly a star we know.

Saba was loathe, Dipika a bit accelarated while experienced stars Asunta and Subhadra failing to a large extent.

India played the second half without purpose, even for about ten minutes midway through the Trinidians gained upper hand, missing a goal and then earning a penalty corner.

Indian substitution was woeful, it was surprising he was persisting with utterly failing wingers and spearheads.

Somesh, the chief coach, agreed that the team has not been performing even to the extent of recent World Cup.

“I have to analyse and see why our performance is not even matching our World Cups’ where we defeated New Zealand and South Africa”, he said in the press chat.

It was apparent from his utterings, the case is lost for India insofar as this CWG is concerned.
