After successful implementation of selecting and training young girl hockey talents from Odisha, the Naval Tata Academy commenced the resident programme for young hockey boys.

As a part of the programme, 31 young talents in the age group of U-17 will be trained by professional coaches at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The boys were selected through a two-week selection camp which started in November last year. Out of the 31 selected, seven boys are from Manipur, two from Uttar Pradesh, one from Assam and rest from Odisha.

Odisha Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera inaugurated the new programme and said, “I congratulate every cadet who has successfully cleared the selection trials and inducted to the Hockey High Performance Centre. The HPC will play a crucial role in grooming the young talents into future national and international players.”

A boost for Odisha hockey boys

A fresh round of trials will be conducted after April 2021 to add to the existing vacancies. The Academy also has 30 girls from Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Punjab, Manipur and Uttar Pradesh under its resident programme.

Besides, two grassroots centres in Dhenkanal and Deogarh districts were also launched. With the addition of these grassroots centres, the total centres in the state has reached 12. The trainees in these centres are being trained by 25 coaches.

The Naval Tata Hockey Academy runs the Hockey High Performance Centre in collaboration with the Odisha Sports Department.
