ONGC beat IAF 5-2

CHANDIGARH: ONGC defeated Indian Air Force 5-2 in the opening match of the second day of Mahavir Real Estate All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Champion Trophy at Olympian Pithipal Singh Astroturf in Punjab Agricultural University on Thursday.

This six day hockey tourney is being organised by Sports Council of Ludhiana (March 9-14).

In the first match of the day, ONGC defeated Indian Air Force 5-2. The first goal for ONGC was scored by Diwakar Ram, who converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 10th minute of first half.

Within next few minutes, Ram converted another penalty corner into goal in the 12th minute. He scored a hatrick of goals in the 19th minute when the ONGC team was given a penalty stroke. Again in 24th minute, international hockey player Gurwinder Chandi of ONGC scored fourth goal for his team.

In second half, ONGC brought the score to 5-0 when Jayanta converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 40th minute. The first goal for Indian Air Force was scored by Parbhakar with the help of a penalty corner in 49th minute, followed by a field goal by Lovpreet in 54th minute of the match. At the end of match, Diwakar Ram of ONGC was declared player-of-the-match.

In the second match of the day, Punjab and Sindh Bank defeated Punjab National Bank 4-2. In the third minute of start of the play, Parminder Singh of Punjab and Sindh Bank scored a field goal for his team, followed by another field goal in 12th minute of the match. The third goal for Punjab and Sindh Bank was scored by Harbir Singh in 37th minute of play, when he converted a penalty corner into goal. Jalwinder Singh of Punjab National Bank scored first goal for his team in 51st minute of the match and Navdeep Singh of Punjab National Bank scored another goal in 56th minute of the play. Pardeep Singh of Punjab and Sindh Bank scored fourth goal for his team in 60th minute of the match.

Parminder Singh of Punjab and Sindh Bank was declared player-of-the-match.

The third match was played between Namdhari XI and Delhi XI, where the Namdharis defeated their opponents by a big margin of 6-0. First goal was scored by Karamjit Singh in the second minute, followed by another goal by Harpreet Singh in the seventh minute of the match. Joga Singh sounded the board for his team in the 23rd minute of the match when he scored a field goal, followed by another goal by Karamjit Singh in 48th minute. The fifth and sixth goals were scored by Ramanjit Singh and Balwinder Singh in 53rd and 60th minutes of the match, respectively.
