ROURKELA: (20th December): Host Sambalpur University and Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar) have booked their berths in semi finals of the All India Inter zonal University hockey tournament bieng played here. Samabalpur university registered their third consecutive win to earn the top place in group A. They defeated Jammu University by a convincing margin 7-2. Sambalpur led 3-0 at the breather. Azam Beg opened the account for the winners in 14th minute.He added one more goal for his team in 51st minute. Irshad Mirza also scored two goals for sambalpur in 26th and 54th minute.Imran Khan (28th miute), Arun Prakash Beck (37th minute), and Mazhar kamal (43rd minute) were the other scorers. For Jammu team M.P.Singh (34th minute)and Ranveet Singh (41st minute) reduced the margin.

Akram Khan and Jayanta Kerketta were the umpires.

In a crucial match of group D GuruNanak Dev University (Amritsar) defeated VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur 3-1 to ensure its place in semifinals. GNDU won the second match which took their points tally to six. Jasjeet Singh turned out as the Hero of GNDU team’s victory as he earned a hat trick by scoring all the goals for his team. He converted first three penalty corners into goals in 3rd, 20th and 28th minute. For Purvanchal Abhishek Singh scored the lone goal also off apenalty corner in 23rd minute.

Imran Khan and Amulya Behera were the umpires.

In group A Annamalai University (Chidamabaram) defeated Mumbai University 3-2.N.Sekhar (9th minute), Veer Singh (25th minute) and Zyappan S. (38th minute) scored for Annamalai. For Mumbai Yubraj Balamik (28th minute), and Amit Gouda (45th minute) scored the goals.

Peter Tirkey and Fabian Samad were the umpires.

In group C match Punjab University (Chandigarh) routed Bhari Dashan University (Trichi) 10-1. Mukul Bhargava accounted for four goals in team’s 10 goals . he scored his goals in 27th, 45th, 56th and 59th minute. Ajmer Singh scored three goals in 34th,50th and 52nd minutes. Satnam Singh(11th minute), Jagjeet singh (23rd minute), Karney Singh (28th minute) were other scorers for Chadigarh . E.Etrac scored a consolation goal in 55th minute for Bharti Dashan.

Bijay Lakra and S.Toppo were umpires.

In another group C match M.G.Kashi vidyapeetha, Varansai registered a comfortable 6-0 voctory over Jabalpur University. Harikesh Pratap Singh (2nd and 6th minute) and Vivek Singh (36th and 37th minute) scored two goals each. Deepak Yadav (26th minute) and Javed Ali (58th minute) scored remaining two goals.
A.K.Behera and J.Kerketta were the umpires.

In group D Bangalore University inflickted a big defeat over Rajasthan University (Jaipur) by beating them 7-1. Naimuddin scored two goals in 5th and 49th minute. Naveen(16th minute), Ramesh (19th minute), Mohan M.(37th minute), Uttappa (41st minute) and Pradan (51st minute) scored other goals for Bangalore. Abhay Singh scored the only goal for Rajasthan in 9th minute.
